“Sanjay Mondal & Group” is a bunch of kids and youths living in Tangra, a notorious slum of Kolkata, making music out of waste materials. In 2010, the group has reached the grand finale of “India’s Got Talent” and moved the audience by their sheer musical aptitude. Group leader Sanjay Mondal, an ex-gangster in his early thirties, dreams that the performances will enable these child, to access education, health and a dignified life. But at the moment they face an uncertain future as musicians and also confront violent, exploitative and degrading social conditions that want to pin them down.The film explores Sanjay’s unique struggle to ‘recycle’ garbage and Life while wrenching recognition from a society that has always considered them as social waste.

Even at the age of 40, he has to continue swimming to retain a respectable identity. He participates in the world’s longest swimming competition and tames mighty river Ganges covering 81 KM! His success brings in temporary glory but Kanai continues stumbling off the water while sailing smooth on it! But his uncanny knack for chasing uncertainty remains constant and he falls in love with a married woman! While regarded as a ‘burden’ in the family already, Kanai risks of being a fallen hero in the community. The film chronicles the roller coaster journey of Kanai who constantly negotiates with destitution, desire and destiny while chasing his dream of a dignified life.
